Women represent less than 20% of computer science graduates. Women are only 13% of working engineers. They are only 29% of math Ph.Ds.
Women make up half of the population, yet they are underrepresented in innovative fields such as robotics, self-driving cars, and space travel.
Why in middle school? Microsoft did a comprehensive survey of over 11,500 girl students across 12 countries to see when girls lose interest in STEM. Their finding: girls get interested in STEM between ages 11-12 years but lose interest very quickly when they are 15 or 16. We only have 4 or 5 years to get girls interested in STEM.
